Hello, my name is Brenda Petroski and I'm a mom and a "MIMI" from Lancaster co. PA. I have had a fascination with the Appalachian Trail since I started hiking in 1987 with the York Hiking Club out of York, Pa. Each time I picked up yet another book written by a “through hiker,” someone who hikes all 2,100 miles of the trail from Georgia to Maine, I knew this was to be my journey someday.
At the same time, starting in 2009, I felt The Lord placing upon my heart the desire to raise money for clean water for families in the Central African Republic. I became aware of the multitudes of people in the world who do not have clean water to drink and my heart goes out to them, especially the children.
It all came together—I was to WALK FOR CLEAN WATER. Each time I search for a water source on the trail, I will be reminded of the 1 billion people in the world who do not have access to clean water for their families. I will reflect on their struggles and remember why I am walking.
My 60th birthday in March of 2014 will be a milestone in my life and I know this is the year to go. The Lord is sending me to do something I could not do on my own. No better way for Him to get the glory than to send someone TOTALLY dependent on Him.
Please share in my journey. My goal is to raise $20,000 to keep the clean water flowing from 40 wells in Central Africa!
An estimated 60% of wells in the country have been damaged in recent conflict or need to be repaired. Without the proper maintenance, once again communities are without clean water.
